POST NEWS:

(5-22-08)  Post elections were held on Thursday May 22.  Please see the table below for results.  There is still a real need for Legionnaires who will serve as Second Vice Commander, Chaplain and Historian.

(4-12-08)  Congratulations to our Adjutant, Mike Simon, who was elected to a two year term as District 10 Sergeant-at-Arms at the Spring District 10 Convention held at Post 144 in San Marcos.  Our new District Commander will be Walter Ivie.  Post Commander Bruce Huguelet was elected the District 10 national security delegate to the Department Convention in late June in Corpus Christi.  Post 352 members in attendance were Tom Avants, Mike and Donnea Simon and Bruce Huguelet.

(4-12-08)  The Post bid to hold the next District 10 (Fall) Convention this October 11 was accepted.  Because there will be upwards of 75 people in attendance, the Gem of the Hills Senior Citizens Center has been reserved for the occasion.  Adjutant Mike Simon has agreed to be the Post District Convention Chairman;  please give him your support to make this an event of which the Post can be proud.

(3-27-08)  The Post voted to participate in the Blanco Lavender  Festival to be held June 14 & 15 (Open 9AM until 6PM).  http://www.blancolavenderfest.com/  We will have a food booth selling ice cream.  Because we expect 10 times the traffic that we usually get from Blanco Market Days, we will need the help of more Post members.  Please call  any officer to volunteer your time for various jobs.

(3-27-08)  Finance Officer Donnea Simon was awarded 2007 Legionnaire of the Year for her work in connection with past (and current) financial records and her numerous fundraising activities.

(4-12-08)  A red poppy is put into a crystal bowl for Harold Eggers at San Marcos Post 144 which was the site of the District 10 Spring Convention memorial service and also for dozens of other comrades who have passed in the six months since the last District 10 Convention.

(4-12-08)  Post 352 was top in District 10 for membership growth with 146%.  We will add the ribbon to our Post flag.

AUXILIARY UNIT 352 NEWS:

(4-12-08)  District 10 Auxiliary officer elections were held at the Convention at San Marcos Post 144.   Each Unit gave a year-end report.  Unit members attending were Christine Huguelet, Roxanna Avants and Donnea Simon.

(3-27-08)  Nancy Purpura, Christine Huguelet, Donnea Simon and Roxanna Avants holding some of the 80 hats crocheted by Donnea Simon that have been sent to Texas soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Picture was taken on the occasion of Nancy's 90th birthday.

(3-12-08)  The Unit will be sending a girl from Blanco HS and one from JC HS to Girls State this summer.

REMINDERS:

May 2008 Commander's Call

by Bruce Huguelet

Remember that Post elections will be held at the regular monthly meeting on May 22.  We need candidates for Service Officer, Chaplain and Second Vice Commander.  You may also wish to run against one of the candidates in the other offices.

Booth workers, trash collectors and parking attendants are needed for the Blanco Lavender Festival to be held June 14 and 15.  This is one of our biggest fund raising activities and we need your help so call one of the officers and volunteer some time on one or both days – PLEASE!

Recruiting new members for the Post involves raising awareness about the Post and its activities.  We have been putting articles in the newspapers and we have been distributing this bulletin outside of Legion circles, but we need people to recognize a Legionnaire in public so that the Legionnaire answer questions about the Legion and the Post and can invite wartime vets to our meetings.  Some officers have unofficially adopted the hat that you see pictured and wear it often in public.  If you would like to help our recruiting, you can order a cap directly from Legion emblem sales (item 708.137 $13.95) and wear it as much as possible.  The legion does not embroider this particular style, but you can have Post 352 Blanco, Texas put on your hat locally by Digital Expressions 830-228-5084 for $8.00 (or less if we can get a bulk order).  By the way, this baseball hat can not replace the official dark blue overseas cap that is required for official Legion meetings.
