POST NEWS:

(1-10-10)  William "Wes" Stults (bottom row left), sponsored by Post 352, took second place at the American Legion District 10 Constitutional Oratorical Scholarship Contest held today at Post 144 in San Marcos.  Stults, a Junior at Blanco High School, competed against 3 Seniors sponsored by other Posts.  He was accompanied to the contest by his speech coach Russell Kirkscey who hopes that Stults will compete again next year.

(11-1-09)  Please review the Post Constitution and By-Laws.  They are meant to be hard to change once enacted.

(10-14-09)  The Post now has an official permanent e-mail address blancolegion352@yahoo.com

(9-16-09)  Post &  Department members went to Dave & Busters in San Antonio to assist the Veterans of Valor and the Legion Riders hold a "Night Out" for an estimated 400 wounded warriors from Fort Hood and BAMC.  A meal was provided as well as free access to a huge electronic game room.  The event was also sponsored by Southwest Airlines and Remind.org.

COMMANDERS CALL: OCTOBER
 by Post Commander Mike Simon

We are under attack. The freedoms you joined the military to protect and defend are being threatened. An apartment complex in California (that doesn't surprise me) has determined that its tenants cannot display the American Flag. They cannot hang it outside their apartment, put up a sticker of the flag in a window, or display it on their vehicle. The reason the apartment complex gave for this ban was that "Seeing the flag may offend someone". What the hell are we coming to? WE fought for the freedoms we enjoy, we fought for the freedom to display the flag, but we also fought for the right of some property owner to impose this restriction. If I lived in that complex I would already be moving. Political correctness will be the death of our great nation. If you can, put up a flag on your property, I did, I was the first in my neighborhood, and now there are several. I am very proud of my service as you are. Thumb your nose at these whackos and display the American Flag.

REMINDERS:

(10-11-07)  The Post is using the American Legion AutoBlast telephone system to notify members of meetings, events, member needs, membership issues etc.  If you DO NOT wish to be called, please notify the Post Webmaster.  If you are not getting called it is because we could not locate your number.

(4-23-09)  Post members are eligible to join the Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union as members of select group number 1549.

For the Good of the Legion:

(11-05-09)  U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe (R-ME), Jim Webb (D-VA), Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), and Mary Landrieu (D-LA) on 5 NOV introduced the Cold War Service Medals Act of 2009 (S.2743), bipartisan legislation to authorize the secretaries of the military departments to award Cold War Service Medals to American veterans. You may wish to contact our Senators in support.

(8-28-09)   Many of our members have a hard time hearing meeting presenters due to the three air conditioners that must run in the summer.  Does anyone have a public address system that they could donate?

(7-21-09)  The Post needs an old movie projection screen for PowerPoint presentations.  Either free standing or un-mounted will do.

(7-21-09)  The Post has a Kodak Pageant 16mm movie projector, two Smith Corona electric and one Olympia typewriters; does anyone claim these items?

(5-30-08)  Legislation is pending concerning Army Combat Action Badges.  See http://www.legion.org/whatsnew/publications/newsletter/story?id=599

(2-1-08)  The following 1903 Springfield rifles were issued to Post 352 by the army in 1948.  Please check your closet and return any rifles to the Post.  Rifles not returned soon will be reported as missing.

19303 1510115 3224321

The I.C.E. campaign:  Put "in case of emergency" numbers (I.C.E.1 etc.) in your cell phone so that appropriate people can be notified by emergency responders if there is a problem.

(10-11-07)  Oral histories of veterans are being collected.  E-mail Louis Sandoval or call 210-227-9373x11 for an appointment for a 45 minute interview.

Recruiting new members for the Post involves raising awareness about the Post and its activities.  We have been putting articles in the newspapers and we have been distributing the bulletin outside of Legion circles, but we need people to recognize a Legionnaire in public so that the Legionnaire can answer questions about the Legion and the Post and can invite wartime vets to our meetings.  Some officers have unofficially adopted the hat that you see pictured and wear it often in public.  If you would like to help our recruiting, you can order a cap directly from Legion emblem sales (item 708.137 @ $13.95) and wear it as much as possible.  The legion does not embroider this particular style, but you can have Post 352 Blanco, Texas put on your hat locally by Digital Expressions (located by Spring Branch gasoline station) 830-228-5084 for $8.00 (or less if we can get a bulk order).  By the way, this baseball hat can not replace the official dark blue overseas cap that is required for official Legion meetings.
