REMEMBERING 9-11

The membership of Blanco Volunteer Ambulance Corps would like to take this moment to offer our prayers and condolences to all the families, friends, and co-workers of the victims of terror at the World Trade Center, The Pentagon, and in a rural Pennsylvania field.  May Our Lord comfort and protect them in their time of sorrow, lift up their hearts and minds, ease their grief and pain of loss, and grant them Peace.

Please show your support for our military personnel, pray for a swift and final completion of their monumental task, and for a safe return home to their loved ones once they have completed their task.

History

Blanco Volunteer Ambulance Corps, located in Southern Blanco County, is approximately 45 miles west of Austin, our State Capitol. BVAC is a non-profit, majority-volunteer staffed provider of pre-hospital emergency medical care with a total membership of 25 personnel.

Originally founded in 1974, BVAC has steadily grown in size, capabilities, and call volume. We currently service an area of 400 square miles of southern Blanco County, with a population of approximately 3500 people. Our primary response district encompasses the entire area of the Blanco Independent School District, including the communities of Blanco and Twin Sisters. Our territory includes a heavily traveled US highway, several major State routes, the Blanco State Park, and large agricultural and recreational usage area.

Capabilities

Based out of our station in the City of Blanco, our fleet is comprised of 3 state-of-the-art, well-equipped ambulances. Our ambulances are licensed as Basic Life Support with Mobile Intensive Care Unit Capabilities. Comprehensive protocols and medical direction from Dr. Larry Miller, of The Baptist Health System in San Antonio, are key factors in the quality care BVAC is able to provide the citizens of Blanco County.  Several of our personnel are trained in wilderness search & rescue, high-angle rescue, and swiftwater rescue.

We have mutual-aid agreements with many surrounding agencies, and work closely with the Blanco Volunteer Fire Department for rescue, extrication and traffic control at emergency scenes. Due to average transport times of 35 to 45 minutes to a Trauma Center, we frequently use either the StarFlight helicopter from Austin, or San Antonio AirLife to medevac our most critical trauma and medical patients.

Training

BVAC has comprehensive in-house Continuing Education programs and TDH Certification Training, conducted by Blanco Volunteer Ambulance Corps' Coordinator, Mechelle Salmon. We also have a strong community education and public awareness program. Through CPR training & student education programs, we are able to ensure that our neighbors and friends “Make the Right Call".
