City of Blanco Blanco, Texas Whereas the Wheels and Feet Task Force formed three years ago to work for a transportation plan that unifies the community, enhances safety and beauty, and assures accessibility for all people; and Whereas the Wheels and Feet Task Force in conjunction with the Trans Texas Alliance sponsored a Pedestrian Safety Workshop September 2003 focusing on the Courthouse square area in Blanco; and Whereas The Pedestrian Safety Workshop was attended by 28 citizens representing the City of Blanco, TxDOT, Blanco County, Blanco Library, Old Blanco County Courthouse Preservation Society, Blanco Woman's Club, Keep Blanco Beautiful, Gem of the Hills, Older Adult Rural Services, engineering professionals, Blanco Independent School District, US Postal Service, Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, National Park Service, disabled citizens, health care professionals, Blanco County News, Senior Citizens Services, area business owners, area property owners, Wheels and Feet Task Force; and Whereas the Pedestrian Safety Workshop attendees agreed on changes to improve pedestrian safety in Blanco; and Whereas the Wheels and Feet Task Force reviewed and formalized the improvements recommended by the workshop attendees; and Whereas a goal of the City of Blanco's Master Plan for Park, Recreation, and Alternative Transportation is "Improved pedestrian and bicycle safety" NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Blanco will consider the following recommendations for possible inclusion in future planning and will work with TxDOT as needed to study, support, and implement appropriate changes: " Improve/install sidewalks on both sides of all streets in the square area " Install pedestrian friendly curb extensions at all crosswalks " Install four crosswalks at Hwy 281 and 3rd Street, a fourth crosswalk at Hwy 281 and 4th Street, three crosswalks at Pecan and 3rd Street, and four crosswalks at Pecan and 4th Street " Modify turn lane on Hwy 281 between 3rd and 4th Streets
