Goals of Park Development

Increased utility of existing parks resources

  • Restore Park to more natural topographic contours
  • Provide amenities for picnicking, walking, bird watching, and other passive outdoor activities
  • Reduce maintenance costs through use of native plants and natural management techniques
  • Expand park acreage to include the recently purchased Pecan Bottom property
  • Improve parking and access, including handicapped facilities
  • Enhance connectivity between the historic square/central business district and Blanco State Park
  • Improve the trail through Roland and Viola Bindseil Park
  • Provide gateway signage at both the Historic Square and Blanco State Park trailheads

Improved drainage and flood control

  • Eliminate berms and channelization of Town Creek through Roland and Viola Bindseil Park
  • Install native landscaping to stabilize banks, buffer runoff, and control runoff velocity

Expanded opportunities for civic involvement - examples

  • Barbecues
  • Specialized Gardens
  • Nature observation points
  • "Friends Coalition" to address long term maintenance
  • Amphitheater for entertainment and cultural events
