Stream and Park
Restoration Receive Funding in Central
Texas
Blanco County, TX
(December 2002)
The City of Blanco
received a $200,000 Partnerships in Parks grant
from the Lower Colorado River Authority. The
city, in cooperation with the Citizens' Assembly
of Blanco County Wheels & Feet Task Force
(Wheels & Feet), was recognized for the
groundbreaking nature of the coalition.
Supported by the Rivers, Trails, and
Conservation Assistance Program, Wheels &
Feet led a two year planning effort to act upon
the needs of diverse organizations and to
assemble the financing to realize their vision.
Local government, non-profit groups, businesses
and individuals were supplemented by pro bono
engineering and design support from HDR
Engineering, Inc. and Ford, Powell, and Carson
Architects of San Antonio, as well as a local
grant match from the Guadalupe-Blanco River
Authority.
The project will
restore Town Creek, establish a thriving
riparian habitat zone, and create an
interpretive trail, arbor, amphitheater, and
picnic tables to provide opportunities for more
healthful living and expanded cultural and
historical events in the area.
